Twitter as a Resource

I have always used the Web as a rich source of information, reading a number of publications including newspapers, blogs and magazines. By using Twitter as an information source by following well known publications and industry experts I read their tweets in the same way as news items. Looking a bit deeper I could see who the publications and experts were following and found new sources of information.

Following all the latest tweets could be time consuming however I treat tweets like news headlines. If they are of immediate interest I can click on a link to the full story. The majority I don’t, just like reading a newspaper. Also to help with the management of Twitter there are a number of non-intrusive applications that you can use to monitor tweets.

I occasionally Tweet myself. My Tweets generally link to other Web pages with some relevant search engine news or information for those following me. Rather like when you find something interesting you want to share that with others with similar interest.

There is much more potential to Twitter and other micro-blogging sites which I look forward to discovering but for those new to Twitter using it as an information source could be a good way to start.
