Linked-in

I've had a LinkedIn account for a while but not really using it to the full. I am still not 100% sold on the whole social networking idea but I do find it interesting and have done some ‘lurking’ on old contacts. I am impressed with some of the numbers of contacts for some of my more illustrious friends.

LinkedIn has raised $53 in funding, including Bain Capital so expect to see some changes in the coming months. I also see Kevin Eyres, the European MD of LinkedIn, is getting some press. I remember the last time he was in the news when he took over as the Head of Alta Vista (last century and pre Google) having come from Compaq Commuters – boy that makes me feel old!

I will be making a bit of LinkedIn contacts over the next month so expect one of those linked in emails from me. One thing I have noticed about LinkedIn is that some users have turned off their account because they received requests that were a waste of time and requests for work to back out of without offending people.

One of the things that I had always hoped that LinkedIn would do would be to allow me to connect to other businesses who would be a real fit for a451 and to get a soft intro through a friend rather than trying to bust down the door.

I will give it a try and let you know how it works for me.
